When Is The Best Time To Move?
If you are moving this year have you stopped to consider when the best time to move is? We understand that life happens and maybe you aren’t able to move when you’d like. However, if you have the ability to choose your moving date we have a little secret for you.
Peak Season
Studies have shown that 80% of people move between April and September. The summer season makes moving easier with kids out of school and vacation days. However, because of seasonal demand this can be a hard time to move. The peak season is the busiest and most expensive time to book moving services and a peak season move can impact your pricing 20-30% in some areas.
The Right Time To Move
So when is the right time to move? The best time to move is the time that’s right for you and your family.
However, if you have any scheduling flexibility, non-peak season relocations offer more date availability, and milder temperatures. Non-peak season is typically from October to March.
We understand that not everyone can choose the days they’d like to move. If it comes down to it and you have to move during peak season we suggest moving early to mid April (before Memorial Day) or in September (after Labor Day). This will help you avoid the peak days and peak pricing.
Blackout Dates
During the peak season the industry experiences black out dates. Black out dates occur when companies become overrun with moves to the point where they are not able to load or unload your items. To avoid this happening you will want to book your moving service in advance. This is especially important if you are moving during peak season.
Booking your move in advance will help ensure that you get the best possible price and service for your upcoming relocation.
Booking in Advance
If you need to book a move during the peak season we suggest scheduling as far in advance as possible. Try to avoid booking weekends if you can, your best bet will be booking days that are less busy.
Why You Should Move in the Winter
There are plenty of reasons why you should move in the winter. One, is that you will avoid the peak moving season. This means that you will have a better chance of getting your first choice of dates and times for your move.
Another reason to move in the winter is that it can actually be cheaper to do so. Moving companies are typically less busy during this time and may be able to offer discounts.
And finally, winter weather can actually make for an easier move. Snow and ice can make packing and loading a bit more challenging but once you’re on the road, there is less traffic to contend with.
So if you’re considering making a move this year, think about doing it during the winter months. You may find it to be a less stressful and more affordable experience.
