United Van Lines Releases the 2015 National Movers Study

United Van Lines Moving Trailer

Each year, United Van Lines compiles statistics of their relocations, nationwide, to develop the National Movers Study. They track the number of shipments in and out of each state and track migration trends for each state. “For nearly 40 years, we’ve been tracking which states people are moving to and from, and we’ve also recently started surveying our customers to understand why they are making these moves across state lines,” said Melissa Sullivan, Director of Marketing Communications at United Van Lines. “Because of United Van Lines’ position as the nation’s largest household goods mover, our data is reflective of national migration trends.”

Ranked number one, Oregon, had 69% inbound moves in 2015. With more and more people heading west over the years, it’s not a surprise that the numbers continue to climb, year-over-year. The most outbound moves goes to New Jersey, with New York state coming in as a close second.
Curious where the two-state area ranked? South Carolina comes in at #2 on the inbound list and Georgia comes in a little lower at #14. Find out more about how our home-states stacked up below.
